Frequently asked Questions

Here are the top three things to do to maintain your carpet warranty:

  1. Vacuum your carpet frequently.
  2. Clean spills promptly.
  3. Have a professional cleaning by certified technicians twice a year.

Protecting one of your home’s major investments is not hard. Properly caring for your carpet can dramatically increase its life, giving you many more years of use, and also ensure the well-being of your loved ones. This is especially true if you have young children, family members who may suffer from allergies, and/or pets. Consider this: The carpet a baby and/or pet crawls on starts accumulating all kinds of pollutants (e.g. dirt, road grime, etc.) from the day it is installed. The bottom line, manufacturers require you to have your carpet cleaned by an IICRC-certified technician like us, Refresh Carpet Cleaning. To keep your carpet warranty in good standing they usually suggest you have your carpets cleaned professionally every 12 months.

Ideally, every 6 months. This is especially true for folks in new homes during the first 3 years of moving in. (Don't feel bad if you are not aware of this. Most home owners are not aware of the warranty requirements for their new carpet.) This frequency may change based on the size of the family living in a home, whether they are children, and/or pets, etc., because typically more traffic begets cleaning.

It's easy, and here are the top three things you may want to consider: a. Have a plan for pets. The professional carpet cleaning process can be noisy, and it may frighten your pets. This is why it's a good idea to have a plan to keep pets safe and comfortable. The other thing is that your front door (or a door to the exterior) will be open to accommodate the cleaning hoses. Make sure your pets are in an area where they are safe and secure. b. Is there furniture that needs to be moved? Before your appointment please remove any smaller items up off the carpet, as well as any decorations or breakables. Please note: Our crew can move items for you within reason of course. There are certain things that we do not move. For example, electronics, pianos, beds if they are on wood frames or if there is not enough room to move them in a bedroom, large armoires or large dressers with mirrors attached to them, and similar items. c. If you can, vacuum your carpet before your appointment. Our carpet cleaning equipment isn’t designed to pick up gum wrappers, and/or other similar debris/bits and pieces. Vacuuming before your appointment will ensure that you get the most thorough cleaning possible. Keep these simple tips in mind and you’re sure to have a productive visit from one of our professional carpet cleaners.

Carpet Care Tips

Cleaning your carpet is easier than you think. All it takes is the right vacuum, cleaning products, and a little know-how. Here are a few tips on removing common stains the right way.

Always treat the affected area immediately. The longer the spill sits there, the harder it’ll be to remove the stain.

For a food spill, gently remove as much solid material as you can with a spoon, or a dull knife. Add water and blot, using detergent sparingly if needed.

If you need a spot removal solvent, use a product approved by The Carpet and Rug Institute of America. Apply several drops to a clean white cloth and blot the carpet in an inconspicuous area. If you notice a change in the carpet color, consult a professional carpet cleaner.

Follow these simple tips to keep your carpet’s color and texture looking fresh:

  • Vacuum your carpet regularly to prevent soil from embedding itself in the pile.
  • Depending on the type of carpet you have, you’ll want to use a vacuum with a rotating brush, a beater bar, or suction only.
  • Keeping traffic and other use factors in mind, consider professional cleaning every 12 to18 months.
  • Use scissors to clip sprouts and snags. Don’t pull on them—you might damage the carpet.
  • If your carpet is burned, simply remove the tops of the dark, burnt fibers with curved fingernail scissors. If the burn is extensive, you may need to patch or replace it.
  • Remove heavy furniture dents by stroking the dented area with the edge of a coin. You can also use a hair dryer or a steam iron, but be very careful not to touch the carpet with the iron.
  • For extensive water damage, consult professional cleaners to dry your carpet from the front and back.

Tips for Soft Carpet

Adjustable Height – Use the highest setting where appropriate
Efficient Airflow – Avoid vacuums with very concentrated or sealed suction
Large Wheels – A vacuum with large wheels is easier to move across soft carpeting
